Political gangs and the playing of blaring music at campaign venues have been banned in Adjumani.

The move by the district security committee follows a violent clash between rival political camps over the weekend.

The confrontations occurred in Adjumani town council when the groups aligned with incumbent LC5 chairperson Ben Anyama and those supporting National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer John Anyanzo Ambayo clashed after campaign rallies.

The directive was announced on November 24, 2025, after a closed-door security meeting chaired by Adjumani Resident District Commissioner (RDC) following reports of fresh clashes.

RDC Swaib Toko said the decision was made to restore order, peace and prevent violence from spreading.

"Some of the candidates have formed different groups, especially the LC5 candidates. So, to create harmony, the illegal groups should be banned in the campaigns," Toko said.

Loud music systems and processions out of the campaign venues that disrupt opponents' rallies are also abolished, the RDC added.

According to security officials, several incidents involving unruly youth groups have been reported since the campaigns started, including defacing of posters, threats and attacks, among others.

The Electoral Commission returning officer for Adjumani, Akoa Christine, attributed the clashes to the candidates' failure to follow the harmonised campaign programmes and changing of venues without notifying the relevant stakeholders for proper monitoring and provision of security.

"Some of the candidates have not been following the harmonised programme, which means another candidate will be affected, causing unrest," Akoa added.

Ambayo welcomed the move, saying some of the groups had become 'so notorious'.

"We have agreed as candidates that our music stops where the campaign rallies are held, which is okay because some of the candidates have failed to follow the time," Anyama said.

However, Anyama called for the regulation of vehicles ferrying supporters.
