Stars of global motorsport from across the FIA’s top-level World Championships gathered in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, on Friday, December 13, for the prestigious 2025 FIA Awards.

Uganda was represented by Yasin Nasser, alongside co-drivers Ali Katumba and Joseph Jamya, following Nasser’s remarkable triumph in the 2025 African Rally Championship (ARC).

He clinched the continental title in dramatic fashion, edging out closest rival Samman Vohra by a single point after a tense final round in Tanzania.

Nasser and Katumba received the award on behalf of their crew, joining regional and world champions from across FIA-sanctioned disciplines.

“I am so happy for this recognition. Together with my family, we are truly grateful for this achievement,” Nasser said after the ceremony.

The annual FIA Awards celebrate the highest achievers from across the FIA’s elite World Championships, ranging from Formula 1 and the World Rally Championship to karting, cross-country, Formula E, and the World Endurance Championship. It is the only night of the year when competitors from the world’s paddocks and service parks come together to celebrate excellence in motorsport.

This year’s theme, “Dreams of a Champion,” reflected the years of dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance required to reach the pinnacle of motorsport. Under a starlit sky in Tashkent, drivers and teams celebrated dreams that had finally become reality.

Fresh from being recognised by the Equator Motorsport Team in Kisumu, Nasser was also praised for his immense contribution to the region, not only as a driver, but also as a sponsor through Moil, and as an inspiration to a new generation of young rally drivers across East Africa.

The Kisumu event was graced by Equator Motor Club Vice Chairman Jassi Chatthe, the 2015 African Rally Championship and Kenya National Rally Championship winner, who commended Nasser’s impact both on and off the stages.

With this achievement, Nasser joins Uganda’s motorsport elite, becoming the first Ugandan since the late Charles Muhangi, who won the ARC title in 1999, to claim Africa’s most prestigious rally crown.
