Defending champions Wampeewo Ntake SS, along with Gombe SS, Mbogo Mixed SS, and Bombo Army SS, have booked places in the handball semi-finals of the ongoing National Ball Games II and Athletics Championships.

Wampeewo Ntake SS, winners of the 2024 National Ball Games II held at Teso College Aloet in Soroti, continued their dominance with a commanding 21-12 win over Kawanda SS.

This marked their seventh consecutive victory at the 2025 USSSA National Ball Games II Netball Championship, currently hosted by St. Peters College and Tororo Girls School.

Their consistent and clinical performances have kept them firmly atop the competition, underlining their status as favorites to retain the title.

Handball head coach Arness Kasozi praised his team’s unity and focus. “The boys did a great job, but we know the job is not finished. The upcoming matches are crucial, and we need to secure strong wins to advance,” he told Vision Sports. “We’re familiar with the ground now and have strong support from the Tororo community—we intend to make the most of it.”

Elsewhere, Bombo Army SS cruised past Lubiri SS with an 18-13 win, Gombe SS edged out Kakungulu Memorial 17-13, while Mbogo Mixed SS knocked out Ntare School with a tight 18-16 victory, denying them a semi-final spot. Mbogo coach William Kabindi remains optimistic. “There’s no reason why we shouldn’t win the trophy again here in Tororo. We claimed the girls’ title last year in Soroti and finished third in the boys’ category,” he said.

This year’s championships feature 19 sports disciplines, including volleyball, beach volleyball, woodball, beach soccer, U-15 and U-16 football, lacrosse, athletics, cross-country, ludo, chess, scrabble, and demonstration events like baseball, softball, and gymnastics. A total of 8,380 athletes—comprising 4,873 girls and 3,507 boys—from across Uganda are participating.

Top performers in each category will earn the chance to represent Uganda in East African competitions, raising the stakes at this year’s national games.
