Over 100 participants are expected to vie for honours in different age categories in the inaugural Stanbic Annual Junior Golf Championships, taking place on December 14 at the Uganda Golf Club.

This highly anticipated championship has attracted an impressive number of young participants, making it one of the largest and most inclusive youth golf events in the country.

The tournament will feature three competitive and developmental categories: the main event for those aged 4-18 years who are already actively playing golf with established handicaps, the Skills Test Category (for beginners starting the game), and a subsidiary event for youth aged 19 to 35, a pathway that strengthens continued participation and extends the development pipeline beyond junior golf.

The president of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union Rita Apell unveiled the championship together with the anchor sponsors Stanbic Bank and co-sponsors Krystal Natural Mineral Water during a press conference at the Uganda Golf Club on Thursday.

She said the event is one of the biggest and most inclusive youth golf events in the country this year, providing meaningful pathways for young golfers at every stage from early beginners to competitive juniors and youth transitioning into elite categories.

She said the national event is committed to inclusive youth empowerment, reaching boys and girls from both rural and urban communities, fostering leadership, and building pathways to national and international golf exposure.

She highlighted the importance of Stanbic Bank noting that their commitment to youth empowerment, financial literacy, and sporting excellence aligns perfectly with their vision as Uganda Ladies Golf Union.

“This partnership marks the beginning of a powerful legacy,” the Lady president said. “Together with Stanbic Bank, we are shaping a future where every child and young adult, whether a beginner or a rising star—has a chance to learn, compete, and thrive.

“We are deeply grateful for this support.” The Uganda Ladies Golf Union looks forward to welcoming players, families, golf clubs, and supporters to Uganda Golf Club for what promises to be an inspiring celebration of youth talent and the future of Ugandan golf,” she stated.

She noted that the second edition’s event is envisioned to be a world amateur-ranked event where the juniors will play for three days, 54 holes, and earn World Amateur Golf Rankings. “Uganda Ladies Golf Union really looks forward to welcoming players, families, golf clubs, and supporters to Uganda Golf Club on Sunday for what promises to be an inspiring celebration of youth, talent, and the future of golf in Uganda.”

Arthur Kiwanuka, Stanbic Bank’s Head of Affluent Clients, noted that their sponsorship was a continuation of their support for the game in addition to the UGC Monthly Mug, Entebbe Open, and others because golf was a big deal for them because it is very important for the customers and their children that they serve.

“So it makes sense for us, and we're excited about the fact that we have the naming rights, which means we are inspired to continue supporting golf. Customers come to us for growth and for legacy, and this is part of legacy,” Kiwanuka said.

Krystal Water’s Camila Wangoi said they will provide all the water needed for the competition.
