The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) is preparing for a momentous week, marked by the arrival of the Webb Ellis Cup, the official Rugby World Cup trophy on Saturday, and the kickoff of the Rugby Africa Cup on Tuesday.

In a show of unity and regional camaraderie, officials from URU and Nile Breweries paid a courtesy visit to the South African High Commission in Uganda.

The delegation was received by Solly Sebola, the Chargé d'Affaires (Acting Head of Mission) at the South African High Commission. The visit served to strengthen diplomatic and sporting ties between Uganda and South Africa ahead of what is set to be the most significant rugby event ever hosted on Ugandan soil.

“We are honoured to host this delegation as Uganda prepares for this important tournament,” Sebola said. “South Africa is proud to hold the Webb Ellis Cup after our 2023 Rugby World Cup victory in France. Bringing the trophy here gives hope and inspiration to everyone who loves rugby. We wish Uganda all the best in the Rugby Africa Cup, and we hope to see them alongside South Africa in Australia in 2027 as Africa’s representatives.”

Nile Breweries, through its flagship brand Nile Special, has pledged continued support for both the arrival of the trophy and the duration of the Rugby Africa Cup.

“Nile Special has always been Ugandan rugby’s number one fan, and this visit is a milestone in our journey to help local teams achieve big dreams,” said Wangechi Gitahi, Head of Marketing at Nile Breweries. “We understand how inspiring it is for our players to see South Africa—the current holders of the Webb Ellis Cup—standing behind this journey too.”
