Mark Namanya, PR & Communications Manager for the CHAN AFCON Secretariat, has called on Ugandan football fans to turn up in large numbers for the semi-final clash between Senegal and Morocco at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on Tuesday night.

Morocco, who arrived in Kampala on Sunday night, booked their spot in the semis after edging Tanzania 1–0. Senegal advanced by the same scoreline, eliminating hosts Uganda in a tightly contested quarter-final.

The upcoming showdown pits two African heavyweights and former champions against each other, Morocco, winners in 2018 and 2020, versus defending champions Senegal.

The other semi-final, kicking off earlier at 5 PM, will see Madagascar face Sudan at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Namanya emphasized the importance of continued local support despite Uganda’s exit from the tournament.

“What we can do right now as a country is to remain part of this tournament, even though our team is out,” he said. “I urge fans to buy tickets for the semi-finals and the third-place play-off on Friday, which will be the final CHAN game at Namboole before the grand finale in Nairobi.”

He described the Senegal–Morocco fixture as a must-watch for any true football enthusiast.

“This is a high-quality match between two top sides. As the Local Organizing Committee, we’re always encouraged when fans show up in numbers—it sends a strong message to CAF that Ugandans love the game beyond just supporting the Cranes. That’s why we bid to host this tournament.”

Namanya reiterated that Uganda’s hosting was meant to celebrate all participating nations, not just the home team.

He also revealed that CAF was pleased with Uganda’s hospitality and infrastructure, and expressed optimism about further improvements ahead of AFCON 2027.

“We’ve been welcoming from the airport to the training grounds and main venues. There’s still room to grow, and we’re committed to doing even better when PAMOJA 2027 arrives.”
