Irene Sekabembe of Entebbe Golf Club emerged champion of the 2025 NCBA Stableford Golf Series at her home club on Saturday, earning herself a fully paid trip to the regional grand finale at Muthaiga Golf Club in Kenya this November.
Playing off handicap 48, Sekabembe carded an impressive 45 Stableford points to win on countback.
The victory secures her place among Uganda’s representatives at the regional showdown, a feat she described as the result of consistent hard work and passion for the game.
“This is my third time winning a major tournament at this club. It has been a journey of hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn,” said an elated Sekabembe.
“I thank my employers, MTN, for giving me time to play, and I’m going to train even harder for a podium finish at Muthaiga.”
Despite having played golf for only two years, Sekabembe’s rise has been swift. She now joins James Abiria and Gabriel Amani, the respective winners of the Jinja and Kitante legs held earlier in August and July, as Uganda’s trio of fully sponsored finalists for the Muthaiga grand finale.
NCBA Bank CEO Mark Muyobo lauded the participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship across all three Ugandan legs of the series.
“This year, we are sponsoring the winners from each of the three series with fully paid trips to Muthaiga,” Muyobo announced.
“The other top 24 players from the three legs also qualified to represent Uganda, though they will cater for their own expenses.”
Now in its third year, the NCBA Stableford Golf Series brings together golfers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, with the regional finale in Kenya serving as the culmination of the year-long circuit.
“We are proud of the golfers who have displayed great talent and emerged winners in the three legs,” Muyobo added, noting that the Kitante leg champion was a product of the NCBA Junior Golf Series.
Saturday’s leg also produced notable performances from John Basabosa and Martha Babirye, who each returned 73 gross, just one shot over par.
With 182 golfers taking part, the Entebbe event marked another successful chapter in the NCBA Stableford Series, underscoring the growing vibrancy of Uganda’s golf scene.
