Teso’s celebrated kickboxer Dan Okiror, popularly known as Power Mike, is set to make his return to the ring on December 10 in a highly anticipated cultural title fight against Uganda’s iconic fighter Moses Golola.
Organised by the Ngora community under the leadership of Fabian Ebiju, the event aims to celebrate Uganda’s cultural diversity and promote unity across regions.
The official launch of the fight will take place on Friday, November 8, at Kaler Primary School Grounds in Ngora District.
The main event will be preceded by 36 undercard bouts, culminating in the headline clash between Power Mike (representing Eastern Uganda’s Teso region) and Golola (representing Central Uganda). The fighters will compete in the light heavyweight category (80–100 kg), with the winner claiming the title of National Kickboxing Cultural Champion.
Excitement is building across the Teso region, with many viewing the fight as a powerful symbol of cultural pride and national unity. “We want to show Uganda that the Teso sub-region has talent. Power Mike has challenged fighters locally, nationally, and internationally,” said Joseph Emesu, a passionate supporter.
Power Mike, who began his kickboxing career in 2006, holds an impressive record of 25 professional fights with only four losses.
His accolades include a gold medal from the 2014 Asian Martial Arts Games in Kathmandu, an East African title, and an intercontinental title won in 2016.
Confident and ready, Okiror fired a bold message to his opponent: “Golola should stop his acting and come for the real challenge. I’m now matured, seasoned, and skilled.” He also called on political, religious, and business leaders to support the initiative, which he believes can unite Uganda’s diverse cultures through sport.
This marks the first-ever cultural kickboxing title fight in Uganda, set to be contested in the cruiserweight division (75–80 kg) over six rounds.
Golola Moses, known for his flamboyant personality and fighting spirit, emphasized the power of sport to unite people.
“We all know that sports unite people without conditions. This is a great opportunity to bring togetherness in the industry. I call on everyone to support this concept. I promise, with my hot temper, I will win this fight and uplift the pride of Buganda. Our kingdom has always been powerful, and it’s my responsibility to keep it on top,” Golola declared.
