Newcomers SR KUKU Badminton Club have made a strong start to the National Badminton League (NBL) season and warned their rivals of their intent to dominate and lift the trophy.
The warning came after an impressive opening day at Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Saturday, where they won all their fixtures.
The new entrants, one of six teams competing in the 2026 season, have registered squads in both the Super League and Corporate categories.
SR KUKU has assembled a formidable Super League side comprising elite players, including continental top seed Fadilah Shamika, Gladys Mbabazi, Olivia Nakajja, and Kenneth Mwambu, among others.
Mbogo High Warriors, who finished second last season, also made a strong start, convincingly winning both their fixtures with identical 5-0 victories over KCB and Seroma Christian High School.
Meanwhile, defending champions Ndejje University endured a difficult opening, suffering a heavy defeat after losing several key players who have since completed their studies at the institution.
League manager Ronald Lule confirmed that matches will be played once a month due to venue availability.
"I am happy the events started on a high note. I thank all the clubs and corporate teams for abiding by the rules and honoring their matches," Lule said.
The league has also attracted a combined team of para players competing alongside able-bodied players in the Corporate category. This initiative by the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) aims to strengthen the athletes' competitiveness and provide them with more playing time ahead of international tournaments to be hosted in Uganda.
