Mvara Secondary School, debutants at the 22nd edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, are making waves in Kakamega with a string of dominant performances.

The Northern Uganda-based school continued their impressive run in the girls’ basketball 3×3 competition, defeating Tanzania’s Juhundi Secondary School 14–2 on Monday at the Police Canteen courts.

Under the guidance of coach Peter Ssefuka, Mvara has transformed from underdogs into serious title contenders, proving they are in Kakamega not as tourists, but as determined competitors.

“Being our first time at the competition, it’s both a learning experience and a mission to compete. Our slogan is ‘leave no stone unturned’—we’re here to lift the trophy,” said Ssefuka.

The victory preserved Mvara’s unbeaten record and strengthened their chances of reaching the semifinals. With six points already secured, they now need just one more win against Kenya’s Itigoi Secondary School to book a spot in the last four.

Star player Amani Alop led the scoring with five points, while Getrude Nyamutoro added key baskets to keep Mvara in control throughout the match.

Team captain Edomasia Comfort praised her teammates for their resilience: “We had a slow start and were playing catch-up for most of the match, but we composed ourselves and gave it everything. I’m proud we managed to turn it around,” she said.

Coach Ssefuka echoed the sentiment: “This win boosts the team’s confidence. It’s their first time playing at this level, and they’re showing they belong.”

With momentum on their side, Mvara Secondary School has emerged as one of the surprise packages of the tournament, their spirited run making them a team to watch in the girls’ basketball 3×3 category.
