Gwanda Fitness Gym’s Abdul Musana defied all odds to clinch the 2026 Lubega Open Bodybuilding Championship title.
The championship, organised by 2019 Mr. Kampala and 2022 Mr. Uganda champion Godfrey Lubega, was held at Simba Valley Pub in Busega, Rubaga Municipality.
Over 50 bodybuilders battled for the prestigious crown, leaving fans at a fully packed venue asking for more. But in the end, it was Musana who rose to the occasion when it mattered most, delivering a solid performance that proved doubters wrong and marked him as the next ‘big thing’ in Ugandan bodybuilding history.
On his road to the final, Musana flexed his muscles like no other, outmuscling his opponents to win the lightweight category with ease.
In the decisive final, he proved too good and unstoppable once again, overpowering pre-event favourites, bantamweight Farouk ‘The Lion’ Miyagi and welterweight Jaffar Ssemakula to claim the overall crown emphatically.
Ssemakula settled for second, with Miyagi trailing in third.
“Truly, this has been a competitive championship, but thank God I managed to come out on top. Of course, my opponents were good, but I was simply miles ahead,” Musana, who also won the Lubega Open amateur bodybuilding title last year, told Vision Sport.
He added: “Now that the Lubega Open is done, my next target is to add both this year’s Mr. Kampala and Mr. Uganda titles to my trophy cabinet.”
Event organizer Godfrey Lubega praised the high level of competitiveness among the athletes and reaffirmed his commitment to developing the sport.
“I’m impressed with the level of competitiveness showcased by the bodybuilders. As promised, the winner will earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Nairobi, Kenya, along with full sponsorship to compete at this year’s East Africa Bodybuilding Championship.”
