Edson Mungereza, the triumphant rally driver, has emerged victorious in the Open category of the 2025 National Autocross Championship and is now shifting his focus to the forthcoming FMU Boxing Day Championship scheduled for December 26 at the Extreme Adventure Park in Busiika.
In a bold declaration, Mungereza warned his rivals that he is prepared to outmaneuver them in the next competition.
The championship season concluded over the weekend in Kitigoma-Buikwe with the sixth and final round, dubbed the MOSAC Autocross and Enduro Challenge. Driving his Subaru Impreza GVB, Mungereza entered the round with a commanding 69 points, a 21-point lead over Humphrey Kawuki, who sat second with 48. His mission was simple: finish the event.
Although he placed third in the final round, clocking 0:07:11.1, behind Umar Dauda (0:07:19.1) and event winner Hassan Alwi (0:07:30.2), the result was enough to secure the overall Open category title, raising his tally to 84 points.
Speaking after his triumph, Mungereza said: “I invite all our fans to join us at Busiika on December 26, as Team Moil celebrates our annual victories. Yasin Nasser has won the ARC and I’ve won the Autocross. All celebrations will follow the FMU Boxing Day Championship.”
Meanwhile, the cadet category title was awarded to Ronald Sserunjogi, who had finished second, after Kawuki’s initial win was contested. Officials ruled that Kawuki had competed in the same category the previous season and declined to move up to the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC).
Dirisa Wabusa, Clerk of the Course, explained that Kawuki had initially been declared champion, but the FMU meeting later confirmed Sserunjogi as the rightful winner, citing his competitor’s registration in the wrong category.
“I extend my congratulations to all participants for enduring the challenging weather conditions and showcasing their skills. The spectators were plentiful, and their passion for the sport was palpable,” Wabusa said.
