The UCU Lady Canons will face the Magic Stormers in the National Basketball League (NBL) third-place game on Sunday 26, as they look to end their season on a high note after falling short of the finals.

The Lady Canons’ inspiring run came to an end after a narrow 59–52 loss to defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins in Game Five of the semi-finals on Wednesday, October 15th.

It was a tough defeat for a team that had shown great resilience throughout the playoffs, forcing a decisive Game Five with a strong 65–50 win earlier in the series.

Head coach Nicholas Natuhereza said the team is focused on finishing strongly and recovering well ahead of Sunday’s game.

“We want to finish as high as we can. We have enough time to recover and prepare for the next game. It’s a match we must take seriously,” said Natuhereza.

The UCU Lady Canons, last year’s finalists, have been among the most consistent and decorated teams in the NBL.

They have relied heavily on the leadership and energy of players like Marina Anyango, Sylvia Nakituuka, Shillah Lamunu, and Sylvia Nantongo, who have been key in rebounds and transition play areas where UCU has shown dominance.

Their opponents, the Magic Stormers, also had a strong campaign but were stopped by JT Lady Jaguars in the semi-finals. In Game Three, the Stormers fought hard in the first half but eventually lost 59–43 after the Jaguars took control in the final quarter.

The Stormers will depend on their powerful trio of Ajah Kur, Christine Nakito, and Auma Angela, who have been effective when playing together under the rim.

On the same day, the JKL Lady Dolphins will battle the JT Lady Jaguars in Game Two of the women’s finals, while the City Oilers take on the Namuwongo Blazers in the men’s second final.
