The 2025 edition of the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) qualifiers for the Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) Games will be hosted in Kayunga District.

The regional qualifiers will take place from July 7 to 14 at Ndeeba Church of Uganda Primary School, with Namagabi Bishop Brown Primary School serving as the co-host.

William Bwambale, President of UPSSA, said the tournament will feature primary school teams from across Uganda competing in football, netball, volleyball, and handball.

According to Bwambale, top performers will earn the opportunity to represent Uganda at the FEASSA Games, scheduled for August in Kakamega, Kenya.

“Uganda is looking to build on last year’s strong performance, where we secured nine gold medals in the primary school category—matching the dominance of our secondary school teams at the 2024 Games held in Bukedea District,” he said.

This year’s FEASSA Games will bring together both primary and secondary school teams from Uganda, Kenya (hosts), Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, and South Sudan.

Gilbert Orikiriza, Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports (Primary) at the Ministry of Education and Sports, confirmed Kayunga’s preparedness to host the qualifiers. He emphasized the importance of timely team organization, particularly by district sports officers, and called for strict adherence to competition guidelines—citing the recent Kids Athletics events in Kabale as a successful example.

“As the countdown begins, all eyes are on Kayunga and Yumbe to deliver top-tier school sports events that continue to raise the bar for Uganda’s young athletes,” said Orikiriza.

In a related development, Yumbe District will host the 2025 UPSSA National Ball Games from August 25 to September 6. The event will feature U-14 boys and girls competing in football, netball, volleyball, and handball.
