In their bid to dethrone rivals Lukanga Boxing Club, COBAP Boxing Club has unveiled a newly upgraded training gym and announced a strategic partnership ahead of the 2026 season.
The development comes as preparations intensify for the 2026 National Open Boxing Championship, the flagship event on the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) calendar.
COBAP, who finished second behind Lukanga at last year’s National Open Championship and were also runners‑up in the National Intermediates, Cadets, and the Uganda Boxing Champions League, have sealed a one‑year partnership with a Kenya‑based global fast‑fit company specializing in sports performance supplements.
The partnership was officially announced during celebrations of COBAP’s 2025 achievements, alongside the unveiling of the club’s new gym located on Lubya Hill in Rubaga Division.
Under the agreement, global fast‑fit will sponsor COBAP boxers during national team assignments with The Bombers, support their welfare, and provide modern training equipment.
“2025 was our year, but we are determined to make 2026 even better. Our mission is clear, to dethrone Lukanga from the top,” said Lawrence Kalyango, COBAP’s head coach and one of The Bombers’ coaches.
Kalyango praised the new partners for their timely intervention, adding:
“On behalf of COBAP BC, we are grateful to global fast‑fit for coming on board. Expect the best from us this season.”
Global fast‑fit country manager Ssanyu Roberts pledged full support to the Lubaga‑based club, noting that the partnership aligns with the company’s broader vision of developing boxing talent in Uganda.
“We are committed to supporting boxing not only at COBAP but across the country. We have ongoing discussions with UBF aimed at promoting and professionalising the sport, and those talks are progressing well,” Roberts said.
With the new facility, COBAP joins a select group of Ugandan boxing clubs boasting modern gyms, including Brawn Boxing Club in Kulambiro and Sparks BC in Kitintale. Ironically, traditional heavyweights such as Lukanga, UPDF, Police, and KCCA BC are yet to unveil comparable facilities.
COBAP BC capped last season with three titles at the UBF Champions League Season 4, courtesy of Nuhu ‘Muzaata’ Batte (welterweight), Moses Kimera (flyweight), and Brenda Muduwa (light‑flyweight), finishing just behind Lukanga, who secured five belts.
