The Uganda Premier League (UPL) will welcome two debutants next season, Calvary FC and Buhimba United Saints FC after both sides secured historic promotion from the FUFA Big League following a fiercely contested 2024/2025 campaign.
Calvary, based in Yumbe District, clinched top spot with 52 points after edging local rivals and fellow promotion hopefuls Paidha Black Angels 1-0 on the final day at Midigo Primary School Grounds. The decisive win capped off a strong season and ensured their maiden appearance in the topflight as Big League champions.
Meanwhile, Buhimba from Hoima District held their nerve at Barthlem Playgrounds in Kiwenda, Wakiso District to earn a crucial 0-0 draw against a resilient home side. The point was enough to secure third place with 50 points and send them into the UPL for the first time in the club’s history.
Joining them is Gaddafi FC, who bounced back to the topflight after just one season in the second tier. Led by veteran defender Savio Kabugo as captain, Gaddafi sealed their promotion with a dominant 3-0 victory over Kataka at Mbale Municipal Stadium. They finished level on 50 points with Buhimba but ahead on goal difference, to secure second place.
However, it was heartbreak in Lira City, where former UPL side Busoga United’s relegation was confirmed after a 2-0 loss to Blacks Power. The win also was not enough for Blacks Power, another former UPL side to secure promotion, as they finished just one point short on 49 in fourth position.
MYDA and Arua Hill, both once UPL sides, were also demoted to their respective regional leagues after finishing 12th and 13th respectively. They were joined by Booma who finished at the bottom in 15th position.
