Uganda faces South Africa in a high-stakes Group C decider at the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), with a quarterfinal spot on the line.

It’s a do-or-die clash for both sides, and the team that best manages the three pillars of the game—ball possession, defence, and attack, is likely to emerge victorious in this crucial encounter.

Both coaches have expressed confidence ahead of Monday’s showdown, adding to the anticipation surrounding what promises to be a must-watch fixture.

Cranes head coach Morley Byekwaso remains upbeat about his squad’s chances, convinced they can secure the vital point needed to advance to the next stage of the continental championship.

Uganda currently tops Group C with seven points and needs just a draw to book their place in the quarterfinals, where they would face their next opponent at Namboole Stadium.

But this match carries more than just national pride, it’s a personal milestone for Coach Byekwaso, who is on the verge of making history as the first Ugandan coach to guide the Cranes past the CHAN group stages.

“We’ve never qualified from the group stages of CHAN, but this time we’re determined to break that barrier,” Byekwaso said.

“We were humiliated in the first game, but we regrouped and now we lead the table. That says a lot. We’re out for a God-willing win.”

“Our focus is to manage every moment of the game,” he added.

Uganda’s campaign began with a 3–0 loss to Algeria but bounced back impressively with a 3–0 win over Guinea and a 2–0 victory against Niger.

Meanwhile, in Nairobi, Algeria faces Niger in another must-win fixture that could shake up the group standings.
