Excitement is steadily building at Bukedea Comprehensive School (BCS) following the announcement by the International School Sport Federation (ISF) that the ISF Football World Cup 2026 will take place from October 17–26 in Suzhou, China.
The Teso sub-region institution will join Buddo Secondary School, St. Mary’s Kitende, and Kyadondo Secondary School in representing Uganda at the prestigious global championship.
Jonas Gumisiriza, director of Bukedea Comprehensive, welcomed the opportunity for his school to once again compete on the international stage. “We represented Uganda well during the previous ISF World Football Cup, where we managed to secure fourth position,” Gumisiriza said.
He emphasized that the ISF Football World Cup is one of the most prestigious global school competitions, bringing together elite Under-18 boys’ and girls’ teams from schools offering both general and vocational education. “The tournament provides young student-athletes with a rare opportunity to compete at the highest level of school football while experiencing international culture, education, and sportsmanship,” he added.
Suzhou, often referred to as “an earthly paradise,” is renowned for its blend of rich cultural heritage and modern innovation. The historic Chinese city is considered an ideal destination for a global youth event, offering a safe, educational, and inspiring environment for student-athletes from around the world.
Beyond the football action, the championship will feature ISF Academy workshops focusing on leadership development, fair play, safeguarding in sport, and personal growth.
USSSA President Justus Mugisha praised Uganda’s progress, noting the country’s top ranking in ISF participation. “Uganda is currently ranked number one in ISF participation, and the performance has been exceptional. We’ve achieved this because we are organized right from the grassroots,” he said.
The inaugural edition of the ISF Football World Cup was held in May 2024 in Dalian, China, marking the beginning of a new era in global school football.
