Uganda Cranes midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga has expressed his delight at representing the country at the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco.
“First of all, it is a pleasure being among the players that are going to represent Uganda in AFCON. I am very happy and I know what it means being part of this team. When I am given an opportunity, I have to make sure that the team gets the win,” Byaruhanga said.
The former Vipers SC star reflected on his journey with the national team, describing it as the fulfillment of a childhood dream.
“Ever since I was little, my dream was to play for the Uganda Cranes. I have been on this team trying to qualify for AFCON,” he shared.
Byaruhanga recalled his debut in Kenya, saying he never expected to play at such a young age but seized the opportunity when it came. Since joining the Cranes setup in 2021, he has made over 20 appearances, with his most recent call-up coming during the 2024 World Cup qualifiers.
After shining in the Uganda Premier League with Vipers SC, Byaruhanga moved abroad in January 2023 to join MFK Vyskov in the Czech Republic before securing a loan spell at Austin II in the United States.
Earlier this year, he completed a permanent transfer to Oakland Roots SC, a United Soccer League (USL) Championship side. Founded in 2018, Oakland Roots joined the USL Championship in 2021 and has quickly established itself as one of the league’s vibrant clubs.
The Cranes are currently in Morocco for their AFCON preparations, with two friendly matches lined up. They will face FAR Rabat, a CAF Champions League side, on Saturday 13th, before taking on Gabon on December 17th.
Uganda has been drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tanzania, and Tunisia. The Cranes will kick off their AFCON campaign against Tunisia on December 23.
