Eighteen teams are stepping up preparations for the 2025 Masaza Cup, set to begin on June 21, with training camps now in full gear as squads sharpen their tactics in pursuit of the prestigious title.
While Butambala remains in talks with former Mawokota coach Richard Malinga and Buluuli has yet to unveil its technical team, the other sixteen teams are already deep into their pre-tournament buildup.
Last year’s finalists Kyaggwe, who lost narrowly to Buddu FC in a 1-0 final, have announced an experienced technical bench.
Former Police FC coach Simon Peter Mugerwa will lead the team, supported by Robert Ssekweyama and Bright Nyanzi. John Billy Lukoda (goalkeeping), James Chamali (fitness), Joseph Ssentume (performance analysis), and Fredrick Mukiibi (welfare) complete the backroom staff.
Defending champions Buddu FC have recruited Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi coach Eric Kisuze, fresh from guiding UMU to their third Pepsi University Football League title.
Buddu hopes his winning pedigree will help them retain the trophy.
Record winners Gomba FC (five titles: 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017, 2020) have appointed Simon Ddungu (Ddunga), who led Buddu to their 2024 triumph, signaling their intent to reclaim glory.
Mawokota, aiming for a third title, has secured David Mutono Katono from Kyaggwe—the tactician behind Kyaggwe’s first finals appearance since 2004.
Meanwhile, Asaph Mwebaze, formerly with Mbale Heroes, takes over at Mawogola, a side still in search of its maiden Masaza title.
Buweekula FC retains its trusted setup, led by head coach Felix Ssekabuuza and technical director Ibrahim Kirya. Kyaddondo FC has also kept faith in Meddie Nyanzi, who doubles as Bugema University’s head coach.
Other Masaza teams have also finalised their coaching staff:
Kabula FC has appointed Michael Bukenya from Buvuma.
Busiro FC will be coached by Paul Kiwanuka.
Ssingo FC has signed Hamza Lutalo, formerly of SC Villa.
Bugerere FC has brought in Michael "Skills" Lukyamuzi, ex-NEC FC coach.
Bulemeezi FC, the 2023 champions, have retained Calvin Paul Mugerwa.
Buvuma FC has appointed Juma Miburo.
Ssese FC will be steered by Edrisa Walusimbi.
Kooki FC has appointed Rogers Lwebuga.
