At least 12 people were arrested in Kampala on Saturday, August 16, during the ruling NRM party primaries for LC3 male and female councillors in Makindye East, following incidents of election violence and malpractice.

Police in Kabalagala said 10 suspects were picked up in Kansanga and Namuwongo after a group of youths disrupted voting at some polling stations.

The suspects were charged with election-related violence under Kabalagala Police vide SD 72/16/08/2025.

In a separate incident at Villa Park, Kibuli, two election officials, Sabiti Sharon and Nankunda Abdul, were arrested after being accused of altering results.

They were charged with election malpractice under SD 73/16/08/2025.

Despite these disruptions, Kampala Metropolitan Police South reported that the primaries, held on Saturday, August 16, generally proceeded peacefully across Makindye East.

“The general situation remains normal and calm. Our officers remain alert and committed to their duty,” a police officer noted after the elections.
