NRM Primaries: Kagabo ready to campaign for Mbabali in Bukoto South

The MP for Bukoto South County in Lwengo district, Dr Twaha Kagabo, has asked his supporters to rally behind Hajji Muyanja Mbabali, who won the NRM party primaries on Thursday.

Kagabo, who recently defected from NUP to NRM, garnered 2,501 votes (31%) to emerge as the runner-up in the party's primary elections, whereas the former State Minister for Investment, Mbabali, clinched the elections with 4,965 (61.78%).

The Emyoga program coordinator for the Greater Masaka region, Gonzanga Mutesasira and Rogers Matovu trailed with 534 and 37 votes, respectively.

Speaking to the media, Dr Kagabo congratulated Mbabali for his victory and pledged to support the party's candidature in the 2026 elections.

“I will not come back as an independent candidate, Mbabali deserved victory, he worked so hard to achieve this win, I will rally behind him with my supporters,” he said. Whereas he pledged support for President Museveni and the NRM party candidates across the country.

Dr Kagabo complained about what he termed as the use of violence and voter intimidation during the electoral process.

In the 2016 elections, Mbabali dislodged DP from its stronghold area in Bukoto South constituency after defeating the then DP Secretary General, the late Mathias Nsubuga. Mbabali will either face Julius Ssentamu or Hakim Kizza (NUP).
