Fiona Nakku, who was contesting for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament flag under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has been officially disqualified from the race over age ineligibility.
The decision follows several petitions submitted by party youth members challenging her eligibility on the grounds that she is above the age limit required for youth parliamentary positions.
A letter seen by New Vision, signed by NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi, confirms that Nakku has been de-nominated based on guidance from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).
In a letter dated August 18, 2025, NIRA informed the NRM secretary general that Nakku does not meet the age criteria stipulated under the National Youth Council Act, which requires candidates for youth leadership positions to be between 18 and 30 years of age.
The petitions, the most notable one filed by Aaron Amanya through ABNO Advocates, argued that Nakku is 31 years old, placing her outside the legal age bracket to contest for the youth seat.
“Following the said advice, the NRM EC is legally obligated to de-nominate you from the position of National Youth Female MP flag bearer as you do not qualify to be nominated at the national level based on your age. We therefore communicate that you shall not be a contestant in the upcoming election for the said position,” Odoi stated in the letter.
