President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson, is expected to pick nomination forms for both the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the position of presidential flag bearer under the NRM party, according to the party’s electoral commission chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi.
“The party chairman is expected to come and pick nomination forms for both CEC and Presidential flag bearer on Saturday this week,” Odoi said on June 23 2025, while addressing the media at the NRM EC offices.

The nomination process for all CEC positions is scheduled to begin on June 26.
During the same briefing, Odoi revealed that the party will set a special date to conduct elections in Sembabule.
He also praised Shartsi Kutesa Musherure for her decision to step down in favour of Godfrey Aine Kaguta, popularly known as Sodo, a brother to President Museveni.
“What Shartsi did is a good gesture and a sign of maturity. I really want to commend Shartsi for this,” Odoi said.
In a letter seen by
New Vision and addressed to Parliament, Musherure stated that following a meeting with President Museveni and consultations with her family, she had decided to withdraw her candidature for the position of NRM flag bearer.
“I regret to inform you that I have withdrawn my candidature for the position of the NRM flag bearer Mawogola North for the period 2026–2031,” Musherure wrote, adding that her decision was based on respect for the President and his guidance.

She further explained that she did not wish to expose her supporters to the threats, brutality, and insecurity they had endured during the previous party primaries, noting that her withdrawal was intended to preserve unity within the NRM party.
“I take this opportunity to thank the President, the people of Mawogola North, especially my supporters, for the opportunity to serve them as their leader, servant, and Member of Parliament from 2021 to date. I have rendered selfless service to my people because it is my duty and calling to do so,” she said.
Musherure expressed deep gratitude to her supporters for their love, sacrifice, and dedication.
“Together, we have made tremendous progress in uplifting the living conditions of our people, repairing and building roads, and improving education and health infrastructure. But above all, we have ensured unity and tranquillity in our area,” she added.
She acknowledged that the decision to withdraw was made with a heavy heart, knowing how disappointed her supporters would be, but encouraged them to find hope in future opportunities.
“At the party EC offices, more candidates continue to pick nomination forms, with the number of those going unopposed also increasing,” Odoi concluded.
