Security minister and incumbent Member of Parliament for Rujumbura, Jim Muhwezi, was the first to be nominated for the Rujumbura parliamentary seat at the Rukungiri District Council Hall on Wednesday.
Muhwezi, who was accompanied by his children, Jim Junior and Samantha Muhwezi, among others, arrived at the nomination venue at 9:35am in a long motorcade, which remained at the gate while he completed the nomination process. He later continued to Bugangari playground, where he was scheduled to address his first rally.
He was declared duly nominated as a candidate for the Rujumbura parliamentary seat by the district returning officer, Abas K. Namara, at 9:50 am.

Muhwezi was nominated and seconded by his two former rivals in the NRM primary elections, Frank Arinaitwe Rukanurwa and Ambrose Kibuka, respectively.
"I want to repeat my earlier statement that I was nominated for the last time because am not ready to contest again after 2031," Muhwezi said.
He said he would complete all uncompleted projects in Rujumbura and Rukungiri as a whole.
Muhwezi thanked his former rivals in the NRM primaries for joining him in the NRM family and vowed to canvass support for all NRM flag bearers.
Frank Arinaitwe Rukanurwa and Ambrose Kibuka, both former Rujumbura NRM contestants, served as nominator and seconder for Jim Muhwezi.
Others nominated for the Rujumbura parliamentary seat include Fred Turyamuhweza, who was nominated at 10:00am on the PFF ticket, and Herbert Magezi, who was nominated as an independent candidate for Rujumbura County.
Others nominated before midday included Dr Wallen Tumwine, an independent leaning towards PFF for the Rukungiri Municipality seat; David Tushabomwe, an independent leaning towards NRM for the Rubabo parliamentary seat; Allan Nabaasa of FDC for Rubabo County; Bob Rugonde, an independent leaning towards NRM for Rubabo; and Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira of PFF for the district woman seat.
