Kikuube RDC warns against sectarianism in campaigns, urges politics of ideas

According to Kasigwa, to ensure peaceful campaigns, candidates should persuade voters with manifestos, not propaganda, because resorting to sectarianism and tribalism risks inciting violence.

Political candidates in Kikuube district have been urged to reject tribalism and malice to ensure peace in the 2026 General Elections.

The call by Kikuube Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godwin Agaria Kasigwa was made on December 23, 2025, during an interview with New Vision Online. Kasigwa urged focusing on ideas over division.

According to Kasigwa, to ensure peaceful campaigns, candidates should persuade voters with manifestos, not propaganda, because resorting to sectarianism and tribalism risks inciting violence.

"I know some politicians like using tribal sentiments for their selfish interest, but I want to tell them that this government eliminated the bad politics of tribalism, voter bribery, and sectarianism," Kasigwa said.

He warned both candidates and their supporters against acts of provocation, abuse, blackmail and physical attacks.

The RDC, who is also the head of the district security committee, said they are concerned over reports of candidates exchanging bitter words and attacking one another.

He urged 'our voters (wananchi), including the candidates, that we shouldn’t play bad politics because we have been guided very well by the principles of NRM [National Resistance Movement]'.

Don't be exploited

The president's representative in the district also warned Kikuube-based youth against being exploited by politicians for election-related violence. He noted that unscrupulous politicians often target idle youths for their own selfish ends.

“Youth are used as capital by unscrupulous politicians to create violence for their selfish interest, and this because there are many youths who are idle, meaning that they can be easily recruited by wrong elements," Kasigwa stated.

Separately, Kasigwa urged the public to maintain vigilance during Christmas festivities as criminals often use celebrations as cover for illegal acts like murder, robbery, and theft of domestic animals.
