KAMWENGE - As we’ve done over the past four weeks of the presidential campaigns, we have not only brought you informative coverage from the trail but also highlighted the hilarious moments that cut across political divides.

With the latest such moment coming in Kamwenge town council during Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential flag-bearer Maj. Gen. (rtd) Gregory Mugisha Muntu campaign rally on October 26, 2025.

Former army commander Muntu was taken by surprise by local musician Scooby Doo’s request about what he should do once he takes the mantle after the General Election scheduled for January 15 next year.

Never mind about the name, he is not in any way related to the fictional dog in Warner Bros cartoon movies.

The artiste, who is differently abled, began unexpectedly, reminding the former army commander of his past support and listing some of the area’s challenges before making a wish.

“If you remember, a long time ago, during Dr Kizza Besigye’s campaigns, we were with you. I hope you recall when you visited Kyabandara while we were fighting for the people who were dying then, when you brought the cement. The tear gas that hit us, I was there with you. I was still young then, but now I am grown up,” he said.

“Your Excellency, when you look at these people, do you think there are enough drugs in our hospitals for them? Mr Excellency, we bury people every day, we are very tired. When we raise our concerns, they tell us tomorrow, as if we eat tomorrow on a plate,” Scooby Doo added.

Amid loud cheers from the residents gathered at the Railway Grounds, he must have thought it was his moment to “raise the volume” as the youth often say.

“Lastly, Mr Excellency, I want to ask you something. I completed Senior Four, and I now do music, dance and drama (MDD). Artistes from across the country, like Eddy Kenzo (real name Edrisa Musuuza) and Bebe Cool (real name Moses Ssali) are driving cars, while I walk barefoot. Why do they torture us?” he asked.

“I’m kindly requesting you, when God helps you to get there, please remember us, the artistes of Kamwenge. At least give us a car, so that when someone from Nyanchwamba or Kamwenge gets an accident, I, Scooby Doo, as a celebrity, can help rush that person to the hospital. May God bless you!” Scooby Doo.

However, it was the ending that proved most interesting. The artiste, who was visibly struggling with King Charles III’s language, said, “I salute for you,” instead of “I salute you.”

However, that was not the end. Muntu was in for another surprise later in the day while campaigning at Rutooma town in neighbouring Kitagwenda.

What should have been brief welcoming remarks from a local leader turned into a political endorsement.

“Residents of Rutooma, we are glad to host a president, and I ask you to vote for him because he has a vision. For a long time, we have been waiting for Mugisha Muntu Girigoori (Gregory), and I want to assure you that we should vote for Muntu; he is the one with a vision and does not engage in protests. He handles issues calmly until he resolves them,” the man stated.
