Aspiring Kampala Members of Parliament (MPs), who will be nominated today, October 22, 2025, and tomorrow, have been barred from accessing the central business district after the exercise.
Each candidate is also only allowed to bring two motor vehicles and six supporters.
Announcing the detailed security deployment on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, said supporters of the parliamentary candidates will not be allowed at the venue.
“KMP have put up security measures during nominations for MPs, police, and its sister forces will implement various security measures to ensure a peaceful and safe process. There will be joint deployment of police and intelligence at nomination centres to maintain law and order, and prevent any potential disruptions,” Onyango said.
Onyango explained that the Police will control crowds and maintain a safe distance between aspirants, their supporters, and other stakeholders.
“Agencies will gather intelligence on potential security threats and take proactive measures to mitigate them. Police will work closely with Electoral Commission (EC) officials to ensure that the nomination process is conducted in accordance with the law and guidelines. Candidates or their agents should work closely with security. If they are planning any rally after the nomination, they should inform Police of the venue and time,” he added.
Traffic guidelines
Onyango also released the traffic plan for the nomination exercise at EC offices in Ntinda.
Candidates will access the Electoral Commission Offices in Ntinda through the Kyambogo traffic lights, using the Ntinda-Kyambogo junction. A cutoff point will be established immediately after the traffic lights; Parking will be available at the International School near Canon Road.
After nomination, candidates will be escorted by the Police of Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) via the Nalya-to-Nalya roundabout Northern bypass.
Candidates will not be allowed to access town after nomination.

He urged the candidates, their supporters and members of the public to plan accordingly.
The national nomination for MPs will be conducted on Tuesday and Thursday, and thereafter,
EC will declare a date on which each of the candidates will start canvassing for votes as the country heads to the general elections on January 15, 2025, to elect new leaders.
