Foreign affairs minister Gen. Abubakar Jeje Odongo has been duly nominated to contest for the Orungo County parliamentary seat in Amuria district as an independent candidate.

Speaking after securing the nomination on Thursday (October 23), Gen. Odongo said the way had opened for him to return to Orungo County to unite with his community and ensure that each family earns between sh5m and sh10m per year.

Odongo noted that he is determined to work hard to ensure there are no grass-thatched huts in the constituency, but only permanent houses.

He said his manifesto outlines how he plans to achieve this by improving agriculture, road networks, the health sector, and other key areas.

When asked why he did not participate in the NRM party primaries, he said that at the time of the NRM nominations, he was on national duty in China, Russia, and Turkey for three weeks, which made him unable to be nominated.

This, he said, is the reason he is contesting as an independent candidate.

On Thursday, the second and final day of nominations, NRM’s Samuel Ediau (Amuria County), NUP’s Moses Ariong (Amuria County), independent candidate Sarah Specioza Abeja (Woman MP), and NRM’s Margaret Etilu were among those nominated.
