Former foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa's daughter says she's out of the Mawogola North Member of Parliament (MP) race.

Referring to the 'unfortunate events that took place during the same exercise of 2021', Shartsi Kutesa Musherure, who is the incumbent legislator of the Sembabule-based constituency, says:

"The people of Mawogola North were not able to exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders freely, which is the very essence of elections".

The revelations are contained in a statement by Musherure issued today, June 22, 2025.

Her decision comes barely a month to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries slated for July 16, 2025.

According to her, the decision comes after a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, who is also NRM party chairperson and consultations with her family.

Musherure lists three reasons for the withdrawal of her candidature for the position of the NRM flag-bearer in Mawogola North for the period 2026-2031:

▪️My respect for the President, Chairman of the NRM Party, my elder and leader and my high regard for his guidance.

▪️Not to subject our supporters to the threats, brutality and insecurity that they endured in the previous Sembabule NRM primary elections.

▪️To safeguard the unity of our people

▪️To maintain the unity of the NRM party.

The MP says the decision has been taken “with a heavy heart, knowing fully well how much disappointment you will all endure, but I take comfort in the knowledge and belief that it is in the ashes of such setbacks that the seeds of future success germinate.”
