Former National Unity Platform (NUP) party presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has picked nomination forms to run again for the country’s highest office in the 2026 general election.
A NUP delegation led by NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, and deputy president Dr Lina Zedriga picked up the forms on behalf of Kyagulanyi from the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala on Monday (August 18).
By the time of writing the story, Kyagulanyi’s team had not addressed the media.
Kyagulanyi, who is a musician by training, came second after President Museveni in the last general election.
He entered elective politics in June 2017, winning the Kyadondo East MP seat on an independent ticket.
The 43-year-old has since developed a strong reputation as a fierce critic of President Yoweri Museveni and became the face of Uganda’s Opposition.
He comes across as a charismatic, fresh-faced youth who is demystifying age and politics in the country, according to analysts.
The analysts say his ‘People Power’ movement, which morphed into NUP in July 2020, seems to have ignited a certain sense of confidence among young people to be the change they would like to see.
