KAMPALA - Incumbent Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Patrick Amuriat Oboi has stepped down in favour of party secretary general Nandala Mafabi for the presidential party flag.

The Wednesday, July 30, 2025, development means that Mafabi will represent FDC in the presidential campaigns in the general election slated for January 2026.

The revelation reaching New Vision Online comes a day after Mafabi told the media that he was willing to support Amuriat should elders select him to lead the party into the 2026 elections.

The FDC elders were expected to unveil the party’s new leader following a day-long closed-door meeting held yesterday (July 29, 2025) at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala.

The meeting brought together the two leadership candidates and their respective camps.

The session was chaired by FDC national chairperson Jack Sabiiti and attended by more than 60 elders representing 21 subregions and other senior party leaders.
