______________
The Ugandan government has successfully coordinated the evacuation of 42 Ugandan students and two diplomatic staff from Tehran to Turkey following the outbreak of conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel that broke out on June 13, 2025.
The evacuations were managed by Uganda's Embassy team in Tehran, who recently set up an emergency evacuation coordination centre in neighbouring Turkey in cooperation with the Embassy in Ankara.
The government on Friday (June) reported that through guidance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs official in Kampala, a large number of Ugandans in Iran were registered for evacuation.
A press release from the Ministry states that after neighbouring Turkey agreed to issue visas on arrival, a number of coaches (buses) were secured to enable emergency evacuation of the affected Ugandans back home through Turkey.
The Emergency Evacuation Coordination Centre is being overseen by Ambassador Matata Twaha, Charge d’Affaires, assisted by Mr Oscar J. Edule, Minister Counsellor and Mr Agaba Mark, Financial Attaché, Uganda Embassy Tehran.
