Uganda ambassadors back home for five day annual conference in Gulu

GULU - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is holding a five-day annual ambassadors conference in Gulu city.

The conference has drawn ambassadors and commissioners from all the countries Uganda has international relationships.

The annual conference under the theme, "Strengthening the Foreign Services Contribution to National Development," kicked off today (Monday, September 1, 2025) at Gulu University library.

During opening remarks, Henry Okello Oryem, the minister of state for foreign affairs, encouraged the ambassadors to be mentors of foreign service officers and also be self-motivated to do everything possible positively in their workplace so that they develop their relationship.

He said ambassadors should be front-line negotiators for peace and development by being involved in peacekeeping and negotiations.

Gen Jeje Odongo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, said Uganda's ambassadors are back home for the five-day annual conference in Gulu, adding that their performance has been good overall; however, operations at South Sudan, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo had been interrupted due to insecurity in those countries.

Odongo called upon the ambassadors to understand the dynamics of "Musevenionmics " so that they do their work well.

Gen Odongo cited the recent case of evacuating students from Iran last month, which calls for critical thinking and review of their work.
