HOIMA - The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Hoima city has remanded two Uganda Police officers and three civilians over charges of motorcycle theft, conspiracy to commit offences and possession of stolen property.
Some of the motorcycles allegedly stolen belong to the Uganda Police Force, including Bajaj Boxer registration numbers UFL 568Q and UBY 749W.
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Denis Semaganda and Police Constable (PC) Elias Kamugisha, who are both attached to Hoima Central Police Station under the camera unit, appeared before the Magistrate's Court on February 26, 2026.
The three civilians charged alongside the officers are bodaboda rider Samuel Kamushaba, private security guard Wycliff Mbabazi and Kasim, a mechanic, all residents of Hoima city.
The suspects appeared before chief magistrate George Kunihira, but denied the charges. They were remanded to Hoima Government Prison until March 10, 2026.
Dismissed from the Force
Albertine south region Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said the officers were dismissed from service on February 24 over corrupt tendencies by the Central Police Standby Disciplinary Court.
“The affected persons were dismissed from the force on 24th February 2026 by the central police standby disciplinary court, and they are no longer part of us,” he said.
He said, this is to serve as a reminder for officers to maintain professionalism and emphasise integrity and accountability in the service.
The arrests followed an operation by the Flying Squad, which uncovered a chain linking suspects, a local dealer, and the officers. The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Fred Yiga, recently emphasised that officers involved in corrupt activities will face the law.)
