Two people died when a Mercedes-Benz vehicle collided head-on with a motorcycle along the Mbale–Tirinyi road in Kamonkoli, Budaka district.
The deceased have been identified as Fred Tumusiime, an engineer at Kamuge Seed School and a resident of Kamuge village in Pallisa district, and Agali Kanyago, from Bukatikoko village in Nabugalo parish, who was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North Region Police spokesperson, said the incident occurred at around 11:05am on April 16, 2026, when the vehicle, registration number UBE 954L, travelling from Mbale towards Budaka, collided with the maroon Haojue motorcycle, registration number UGB 126Z, which was heading in the opposite direction.
"Upon reaching Kamonkoli, the motor vehicle collided with the rider of the motorcycle, killing both the rider and passenger," Kyempasa said, attributing the crash to careless overtaking.
The scene was visited by a team from Budaka and Kamonkoli police stations. Both bodies have been conveyed to Budaka Health Centre IV mortuary pending post-mortem.
The vehicle and motorcycle have been towed and parked at Budaka Police yard pending inspection. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz is still at large.
