A one-year-and-five-month-old child died after being run over by a police vehicle reversing at Lamwo Police Barracks in what authorities are describing as a negligent act.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2026, at around 5:30pm when George Kasirye, a police driver attached to Lamwo Police Station, was reversing a police motor vehicle, registration number UP 7671, without conducting a proper inspection of the surroundings.
The child, whose mother, Racheal Nambozo, is also attached to Lamwo Police Station, was underneath the vehicle when the driver started the engine and began reversing.
Preliminary police findings reveal that the driver failed to inspect the area before moving the vehicle. The incident occurred within the confines of the police barracks.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
