Sheikh Rajab Mugenyi Akiiki has been inaugurated as the 7th district Khadi of the Bunyoro Muslim district.

The inauguration ceremony on Friday was led by the second deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Hafizi Haruna Muhammad Bukenya.

In his maiden speech at the Bwikya headquarters mosque playground in Hoima city, Sheikh Rajab Mugenyi committed himself to completing and adding to projects that his predecessors started.

He appealed for Government assistance towards the construction of the Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim regional headquarters and a new mosque, and more income-generating support programs to boost household incomes for Muslims in the region.

Sheikh Musa Babanja, the outgoing district, urged the new khadi to be firm and transparent.

In the Mufti’s message delivered by Sheikh Hafizi Haruna Muhammad Bukenya, His Eminence Shaban Ramathan Mubajje implored the new khadi to maintain and improve the peace and unity.

Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga, the prime minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, commended the Islam religion for promoting culture through emphasising decent dressing.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in his message delivered by the prime minister, Robina Nabbanja, urged the new mufti to mobilise people to appreciate the transformation projects the government has established in the Bunyoro region into wealth and jobs.
