A key suspect in the murder of Local Government Finance Commission principal human resource officer Moses Omaido, who had been on the run and later surrendered to police in Mityana, has been transferred to Kira Police Division.
The suspect, identified as Aliya Nakimera, was arrested in Mityana district on March 27, 2026, after handing herself over to Central Police Station, a day after she fled the scene of the crime in Kamuli A zone, Kira Municipality, Wakiso district on March 26, 2026.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest and said the suspect had since been transferred to Kira Police Division in Wakiso district.
“Police have since arrested the prime suspect, Nakimera, from Mityana district where she had fled after the commission of the crime. She is now in custody and will be charged accordingly,” Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire said the incident occurred on March 26, 2026, at about 6:00 am in Kamuli A zone, Kira municipality, Wakiso district, where Omaido, a 44-year-old man, was found with a stab wound to the neck. He later succumbed to the injuries.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the incident followed a misunderstanding at his residence involving Agadi Oliver and Aliya, who were identified as suspects in the matter,” Owoyesigyire added.
It has also emerged that on March 25, 2026, the suspect, who had previously been in a relationship with Omaido but had since separated from him, accessed his house using a spare key.
According to police, on the same day, Omaido’s current girlfriend, Agadi, went to his home and, when she opened the front door, she found the suspect in the house.
She called Omaido and informed him about the presence of Aliya in the house, but proceeded to prepare supper. At about 10:00 pm, Omaido, who was at a popular hangout known as Adere in Kireka, decided to return home. The three later had supper and spent the night in the same house.
According to a situation report seen by New Vision, the two women spent the night in the same house.
“The current girlfriend Agadi alleges that it was Nakimera who stabbed Omaido. After the incident, Omaido moved out of the house but later died along the road. The suspect fled the scene. The body of the deceased was recovered and taken to City Mortuary for a postmortem examination,” Police said.
Brian Malinga, a friend of the deceased, said it was possible Omaido had been trying to seek help after allegedly getting into a fight with his former girlfriend at his home.
“I don’t stay far away from him. A neighbour came to my home at around 6:00 am, knocked and informed us someone I was usually seen with had been stabbed. So, we left and went to the scene to identify and when I moved, I saw him lying down bleeding. I had no car so I ran to seek help at Kireka Police Station and implored them to first rush him to International Hospital Kampala (IHK) for medical attention but by time we reached to hospital, the doctors who attended to him said he was already dead,” Malinga said.
Malinga said the deceased came out of his house located on Ndugwa Road in Kireka with a knife in his neck and removed it at the scene where he collapsed.
The deceased previously served in Ngora District Local Government and Oyam district as a human resource officer, and also worked with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards and the Uganda National Meteorological Authority in similar capacities.
