Police have warned politicians against inciting violence against security agencies, saying such acts amount to criminal offences and will be dealt with at an appropriate time.

Speaking at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, today, December 29, 2025, Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said investigators had reviewed several viral videos showing political leaders urging supporters to attack and overpower police and army officers.

“In these videos, individuals are seen telling members of the public to attack security personnel, disarm them and harm them simply because they claim we are few,” Kituuma said during the joint weekly security briefing.

He singled out Mukono Woman MP seat candidate Betty Nambooze, saying she is under Police probe over remarks made at a campaign rally where she allegedly encouraged supporters to attack security forces.

“It is reckless and unacceptable for someone aspiring to enter Parliament to mobilise citizens to attack the same security agencies that protect Parliament,” Kituuma said.

Kituuma accused some politicians of deliberately provoking confrontations with police to gain political sympathy.

“These are politicians who want to clash with Police, get injured, bandage themselves and claim brutality for political mileage. We shall not give them that opportunity,” he said.

He warned that arrests may not be immediate but will be conducted at a time Police deem appropriate.

“At a time of our choosing, when they cannot cultivate political capital out of it, we shall bring them to court. The law is there, and it will be enforced,” Kituuma said.

Police urged political actors to observe restraint, especially during the election period, warning that incitement to violence threatens national security.
