A Special Police Constable (SPC) trainee has been found dead at Lubowa Police Training Camp in Wakiso District, barely two days after reporting for training.
Police described it as a sudden death, pending an autopsy.
Fred Mubangizi, 53, was a resident of Lweza B Cell in Kajjansi Town Council. He was found dead in a dormitory at the training facility in the early hours of Tuesday (December 10) at around 4:30am.
According to a preliminary Police report, Mubangizi reported to the training camp on December 8 for SPC training.
On the morning of December 9, he failed to complete a scheduled road run and reportedly told colleagues that he was suffering from asthma.
Police said the trainee later went with a colleague to Mutungo Health Centre for medical attention, where he was advised to obtain an inhaler.
However, he reportedly indicated that he did not have the money to buy the medication.
“In the early hours of today, while sleeping in a dormitory with other trainees, the deceased developed a fever and later died,” the report states.
A team of detectives, scene of crime officers and other Police personnel later visited and processed the scene.
Statements were recorded from fellow trainees who shared the dormitory with the deceased, and the medication he had been taking was recovered for review.
Police noted that Mubangizi's body was found on a mattress in a normal position, covered with bed sheets, with no visible signs of injury.
Initial findings further indicated that he had a long-standing asthmatic condition and had reportedly not participated in physical exercises since reporting for training.
The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
