Police bust armed robbery gang in Kiryandongo

According to Albertine Region Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza, the suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, 23 live rounds, military uniforms, and more than 50 suspected stolen phones.

Police in Kiryandongo have arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery in which a 49-year-old man, Okello Richard, was held at gunpoint and robbed of his two mobile phones. 

The incident occurred at around 5:30am on April 2, 2025, in Nyamusasa cell, Bweyale Town Council.

According to Albertine Region Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza, the suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, 23 live rounds, military uniforms, and more than 50 suspected stolen phones.

“The victim told us he was confronted by a man in a white kanzu who pointed a gun at him and demanded his phones. He complied out of fear,” Hakiza said.

The suspects have been identified as Sunday Komagum, Ismail Mawa, Martine Oboke Martine, Stephen Ocaya, and Umar Asiku.

Hakiza noted that the group could be connected to other robberies in the region.

“We’re following up on leads and gathering more evidence,” he added.
