Police arrest three key suspects linked to criminality in Kira Municipality

Kawala revealed that the suspects have been charged with possession of suspected narcotic substances and are currently being held in police custody pending prosecution.

WAKISO - Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) are holding three suspects believed to be members of a criminal gang code-named "BONA BAFU" during an operation conducted in areas of Agenda, Mbalwa, and Namugongo in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

KMP Spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the operation was carried out on May 26, 2026, at approximately 7:00pm, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects.

“The group is alleged to have been involved in criminal activities, including burglary, theft, phone snatching, assaulting members of the public using paving stones, and the consumption of narcotic substances. During the operation, police recovered exhibits including suspected marijuana leaves and bundles of rolled suspected opium,” Kawala said.

She revealed that the suspects have been charged with possession of suspected narcotic substances and are currently being held in police custody pending prosecution.

“We reaffirm our commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents within KMP,” she added.

While releasing the 2025 Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report in April this year, the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, said a total of 196,405 cases were reported to Police compared to 218,715 cases in 2024.

Out of the reported cases, 115,301 were submitted to the Office of the Director Public Prosecutions from which 79,291 cases were taken to Court.
