The territorial police in the North Kyoga region, Lira city, have arrested three suspects for allegedly attempting to bribe a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) scout in a bid to influence the conduct of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) that pupils around the country start writing on Monday (November 3) with mathematics.
The suspects have been identified as George Odongo, Simon Ekut (32), and Lavoisier Awoko (26). The trio allegedly attempted to bribe Christine Ayoo, a UNEB scout assigned to Oyam district, with shillings one million in sh50,000 notes.
Police stated that the bribe was intended to compromise the integrity of the national examinations, which commenced on October 31, 2025, with the briefing of candidates.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the suspects at Garden Hotel in Lira city and recovered the money, which has been exhibited as evidence.
The case has been registered at Lira City Central Division Police Station, and investigations are ongoing. Upon completion, the suspects will be arraigned before court.
Police have cautioned the public and anyone involved in UNEB activities against engaging in any form of examination malpractice.
“The police, working closely with UNEB, will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone attempting to compromise the credibility of national examinations. The long and indomitable arm of the law will firmly reach out to all offenders,” said Jimmy Patrick Okema, the police spokesperson for the North Kyoga region.
Okema added that the Uganda Police Force remains steadfast in upholding the integrity of national examinations and ensuring that justice is delivered without fear or favour.
