NUP deputy president Zedriga further remanded in prison

The state alleges that in December 2025, at various locations in northern Uganda, including the districts of Gulu, Amuru, Omoro and Nwoya, Zedriga incited people to commit acts of violence, namely attacking supporters of the National Resistance Movement, a political party, on the basis of their political opinion.

GULU - National Unity Platform deputy president for northern Uganda, Dr Lina Zedriga, has been further remanded in prison for a week over allegations of inciting violence during the recent general election.

She appeared before Gulu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, February 17, for the hearing of her bail application after she was allegedly transferred overnight from Luzira women’s prison in Kampala to Gulu women’s prison.

However, the Gulu Chief Magistrate, Augustine Alule Koma, remanded her until February 24, 2026, pending the state’s response to her bail application.

In his ruling, Koma noted that the state required more time to review the bail application documents issued by authorities from various parts of the country.

During an earlier virtual court session, the state attorney said the matter was still under investigation and requested a mention date.

Zedriga vehemently denies the charges.

“We demand the immediate release of Mama Lina! She is not a criminal,” her team wrote on her social media account of X, formerly Twitter.

On February 6, 2026, Zedriga was arraigned before the same court without the knowledge of her lawyers and remanded.

This followed her disappearance after she was allegedly picked up from her home in Kyetume B, Gayaza, Wakiso district, by security personnel on January 16, 2026.
