Shock has engulfed Ngora following reports of District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Stella Apolot Isodo.
The legislator passed on at Kampala Hospital today, January 17, 2026, two days after losing her re-election bid to National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Josephine Pedun.
Ngora politics new entrant Pedun was declared the winner of the contest with 17,010 votes against Apolot's 11,334 votes.
“Its true my colleague and sister has died," Ngora County MP Juliet Achayo Lodou told New Vision Online.
Achayo added that Apolot died at Kampala Hospital, where she was in an intensive care unit after being sick for a while.
Apolot of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has also been serving as the spokesperson for Teso parliamentary group.
FDC party president Patrick Amuriat said Apolot was last year flown abroad for specialised treatment and returned during campaign time.
“She underwent a successful surgery abroad and returned with a hope of recovering well to start campaigns,” Amuriat said.
Amuriat added that Apolot has not campaigned, but her agents campaigned for her with the hope that she will go through.
“Even without campaigning, she garnered over 11,334 votes. She would not have lost that seat if she were not sick,” Amuriat said.
Juliet Agonyo, the Soroti city speaker, said that Teso has lost an incredible leader who related with all the people.
“It’s a sad moment for her family because her stepbrother is being buried on Sunday, January 18, and now her,” Agonyo said.
Apolot was born on 25.10.1974.
