President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has held talks with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), currently in Uganda.

The meeting took place earlier Tuesday, August 19, at State Lodge, Nakasero.

A release from the Presidential Press Unit states that the Museveni-Tedros discussions focused on strengthening Uganda’s health sector through sustainable financing, local pharmaceutical manufacturing and public health insurance to ensure long-term resilience.

In another engagement, Dr. Tedros visited the WHO headquarters in Uganda, where he interacted with staff on key challenges currently facing the organisation.

He reassured the team, stating, "WHO will emerge sharper, stronger, independent, and more relevant to the world.”

A post on the WHO Uganda’s X (formerly Twitter) states that while addressing the ongoing reprioritisation, Dr Tedros emphasised that the process is being conducted “transparently, with fairness and humanity,” with a strong commitment to preserving as many jobs as possible, particularly in country offices where WHO presence is most critical.
