Mukono bishop calls for spiritual resilience amid economic, social strain

The Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Enos Kitto Kagodo, has urged Christians not to lose hope despite the hardships they may be facing, including those that threaten their lives.
Bishop Kagodo noted that as the world celebrates this year’s Easter, Christians across continents are enduring various challenges, including wars, particularly the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which has claimed innocent lives and caused widespread destruction of property.

The bishop made the remarks while leading an Easter service at Saints Phillip and Andrew’s Cathedral in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality. He presided over the service alongside the Cathedral Provost, Canon Godfrey Ssengendo, and the Vicar, Rev. Daniel Balabyekubo, among other clergy.
He also expressed concern over the plight of millions of businesspeople across different cities and municipalities in Uganda who have lost property and workplaces following the enforcement of trade order regulations by authorities.
“In such situations, many people lose direction, while others turn to misguided and ungodly practices such as witchcraft, drunkenness, and drug abuse. These cannot solve life’s challenges. Instead, we must remember that God is the answer. Do not abandon Him, even in times of sorrow,” he said.
The bishop further revealed that the church, particularly Mukono Diocese, is grappling with cases of land grabbing and called for government intervention.

“You may have seen the recent incident in Nakanyonyi, in Nakifuma-Naggalama town council, where groups invaded church land belonging to Nakanyonyi Church of Uganda, destroyed teachers’ crops, and vandalized the fence. Such incidents threaten church development in the diocese if not addressed promptly,” he added.
The service was attended by several dignitaries, including Assistant Inspector General of Police Moses Kafeero, retired High Court judge Lameck Mukasa and his family, Mukono district chairperson-elect Francis Lukooya Mukoome, outgoing diocesan head of laity Herbert Bataamye, and his successor Nelson Kanyike.
