Residents of Angorom West village, Morukatipe subcounty in Tororo district, were left in disbelief after a girl who had been presumed dead returned home on the morning of Tuesday, July 1, on a boda boda.

Rose Akware, daughter of Paul Otenge, had been mistaken for an unidentified girl whose body was found dumped at Nyamatunga bridge in Mella subcounty on June 30, 2025.

Upon hearing a radio announcement about her supposed death, Akware decided to return home to clear the confusion.

Her sudden reappearance caused panic, with some mourners fleeing in fear, believing a ghost had returned.

The family had earlier visited the mortuary, where they mistakenly identified the body as Akware’s. They even paid for its preparation ahead of the burial.

Akware, who had been staying at Iyokango (Mile 5) trading centre along the Tororo–Mbale road, heard her name mentioned during the early morning show on Rock Mambo radio.

The presenter expressed sympathy for her family, unaware she was still alive.

Disturbed by the announcement, Akware immediately boarded a boda boda home. On her arrival, many mourners ran for safety while others flocked to the scene to confirm the news that she was indeed alive.

The family later accompanied Akware to Tororo Central Police Station to officially disown the body in the mortuary, as she had clearly returned alive.
