After the Government finally set when Youth Day would be celebrated, youth and children affairs state minister Balaam Barugahara has rallied all stakeholders to attend the event in big numbers.

The stakeholders include Members of Parliament, the media, clerics, ministers, local governments and the youth.

Addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala city, on September 19, 2025, Barugahara indicated that young people have been instrumental in achieving national development objectives.

According to Barugahara, the national International Youth Day celebrations are scheduled to take place in Masindi district on September 19, 2025.

However, International Youth Day is celebrated every August 12, across the world.

The global observance of International Youth Day 2025 took place on August 12, in Nairobi, Kenya, in collaboration with the UN-Habitat.

The event brought together youth leaders, municipal officials, policymakers, UN representatives and development practitioners to exchange ideas and showcase solutions for strengthening youth engagement in local development.

The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August 2000.

The theme of International Youth Day (IYD) 2025, Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond, highlights the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities.

For Uganda's belated celebrations, President Yoweri Museveni, according to Barugahara, will preside over the event themed: Youth advance in Multi-lateral Co-operation Through Technology and Partnership, as the chief guest.
